Title: Powering Social Justice with Quantitative Research

Abstract: We live in an unprecedented moment of opportunity. Social movements to address long-standing inequality and injustice are ascendent. Simultaneously, data science methods are evolving quickly, providing previously unimaginable insight into complex questions. The intersection of these realities provides scholars and activists to come together to ask and answer increasingly sophisticated questions about social justice and to leverage the knowledge gained in that process to build a more equitable, just, inclusive future.

The Institute for the Quantitative Study of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity, Inc. (QSIDE) brings the vanguard of quantitative methods together with expertise from the social sciences, humanities, and arts to discover the impact and scope of injustices, and partners with grassroots activist organizations to build solutions to remedy them. This talk will discuss our organization, the various programs we run, and our research initiatives in our five major research themes: arts and media equity and inclusion, criminal justice, education equity, environmental justice, and health care equity. We’ll also discuss mechanisms by which interested scholars can get involved with our organization.
