For the first MSU Wind Symphony concert of the 2022-23 season, Conductor and Director of Bands Kevin Sedatole wasted zero time recruiting Nermis Mieses to play a piece featuring oboe. Mieses is a renowned oboe performer, and this concert marks her debut performance after joining the faculty of the MSU College of Music. As Sedatole has said, Mieses quickly agreed to perform a piece - Legacy (concerto for oboe and wind band) by Óscar Navarro - that has a level of complexity that some oboists try to avoid. For that reason alone, this concert is not one to be missed.
In addition the Navarro piece, this program will also include Sokol Fanfare by Leoš Janáček, Dionysiaques, Op. 62 by Florent Schmitt, and Yellow, Red, Blue by Paul Dooley. Sedatole, Mieses and the excellent students in the Wind Symphony are kicking off this season in grand fashion!
