Since 2021, Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University has partnered with the International Center at UIN Jambi to explore different approaches to global education that focus on Indonesia. This partnership has been grounded in a collaborative online international learning experiences and project development aimed at enriching connections between UIN Jambi and MSU students and faculty. Our work together has placed particular emphasis on culture and the environment, and has also included discussions of architecture, gender equality, and indigenous peoples. At the core of this research is a recognition of the great ethnic and ecological diversity across Indonesia’s many islands and within specific provinces. In parallel to this partnership, UIN Jambi has been making increased efforts to develop robust international education initiatives to attract visiting students from Malaysia and Thailand. This round table presents several different global education initiatives focused on the Indonesian cultural context around Jambi province and the different strategies for enriching student and scholarly engagement with the diversity of Indonesian cultural landscapes. The discussion will explore a range of topics from contemporary forms of wayang in Jambi to international student experiences at UIN Jambi. Presenters include Zoë McLaughlin (MSU), Tira Marina, (UIN Jambi), and Dion Ginanto (UIN Jambi)
