Lake shorelines provide critical habitat, slow runoff, limit erosion, and maintain water quality. However, suburban-type residential development along lakeshores has dramatically altered our lakes. Habitat is lost, and water quality and biodiversity decline. This presentation will cover the historical and current loss of natural shoreline habitat in and around lakes and discuss practical actions property owners and communities can take to protect and enhance their shorelines.
